Anyone going to Phoenix???

Postby Scott Hackler » Wed Apr 09, 2014 2:32 pm

I am thinking about going out the AAW Symposium this year and was wondering if anyone else will be in attendance?

My trip would be short as the "el cheapo" airline flights are late Fridays and Mondays. So I would miss Friday and the ability to enter things in the instant gallery. Thats a bummer. But if I can't do the instant gallery I would likely only buy a one day registration so I could attend demos on Saturday and goof around / meet and greet during Saturday (part time) and Sunday (all day).

Of course my deal is only going to happen IF I get these stupid burial and presentation urns complete and collect on the $$$ owed! Wouldn't be so bad since there is only one small one left to make, but the customer uttered the words I hate "I need the small ones are close to identical as you can". Great..... duplicates...... :)

Thinking about it. Will probably think myself out of it. Lived in phoenix in the seventies. Still have friends there. But i dont care for traveling anymore.

That's about as close as the AAW shindig will ever get to my house. A fairly long days drive. In a way I'm like Chuck, I don't mind traveling so much but I hate flying. Which means I hate traveling if it's very far. I doubt I'll go, in fact I'm about 99% sure I won't. I have the Utah Symposium 70 minutes from home and I've never attended it except to see Grumpy once at the pre symposium sale at craftsupplies. That was worth the drive!

Pretty doubtful I'll be there although I would like to make it to at least one of the national events... Maybe if it ends up in Dallas or Kansas City...

Kind of far for me but decided to go when I got accepted to the "Rising" exhibition. Went to Tampa last year and it really is a tremendous learning opportunity- both the demos as well as just looking at the quality of work in the instant gallery. Truly world class. If you do go, come say hello to the bald guy with the goatee- oh wait, there might be a few of us there...

Originally, I had no intentions on going this year given the distance and travel costs. Just found out today I likely will be in Las Vegas the week before for work...so, may have to think about it now. Only 4 hrs away. Decisions, decisions. :D

Tim, the only decision you need to make is which vendor is going to get most of your money! 4 hours away- how could you not go? Look forward to seeing you there.

Scott, it's too bad you're not gonna drive out here. I could load you up with a truckload of Mesquite, Olive and Ironwood, plus a few other goodies... I also have a place to stay in Phoenix, which would cut down on hotel costs........ Jerry (in Tucson)

I just booked our flight and hotel, so my better half and I will be in Phoenix for the show! Sadly I won't get into town until Friday evening, so I will only be doing a one day registration for demos on Saturday. Looks like I will have to ship items for the Instant Gallery, since I won't make the deadline in person to register the pieces. Geeze, I gotta get turning! :)

Jerry, I looked at driving...but that is a darn long drive to make in one day (to save on vacation time taken). I do appreciate the offer though. (don't think I didn't consider the fuel cost and time in truck, because I was thinking about bringing a load of Kansas timber with me for you, Kathy Marshall, Wally and a few others. But this time it's going to be a plane ride.

Scott, I'll be looking forward to meeting you. Since you're flying, leave a little extra space in your suitcase as I have something critter free for you.............. Jerry (in Tucson)

I'll definitely be there, in the Carter booth as usual. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Sorry I'm getting back so late Scott but this is Sandi's last year on the AAW board so in the future we'll be going by choice.

Hi guys, sorry I haven't been around. Been remodeling the new house so we can move. 1/2 my shop is in one house and 1/2 in the other. I will say though, I will definitely be at the phoenix symposium. If all goes well, I'll have an amazing surprise for everyone as well. More on that very soon. I'll have the Spiral piece I did a while back on display as well as a couple others. So for those of you going, please look me up.

Getting closer now! :)

I just did the online registration last night so demos on Saturday for me (as long as I don't get side tracked with chit chat!) Now to call the AAW and get the address to ship my EOG Auction piece and anything I want in the instant gallery. I am ready to get out of Kansas for a few days. See you all there!

Not much time left until Phoenix! We arrive Friday eve and I registered for Saturday so I can attend a few demos and take a couple pieces for the Instant Gallery (although mine will be late!). Can't wait to meet some of the folks that I have only talked to online. Going to be a short weekend, but should be fun and tide me over until SWAT!

We are half way to Pittsburgh...

Tomorrow night should be very interesting

At 7:00 p.m. Lauren will be attending the Women In Turning meeting.

At the same time, I will be doing a 7 minute presentation as part of Rob Wallace's Gizmos and Gadgets session. I will be talking about using live video in woodturning projects (cool toys!)

I hope to see some of you there.
