Rice-maran

Postby Robert Henrickson » Thu Mar 20, 2014 8:01 pm

Looks like I’m going to be the odd one out in this challenge. Rather than do the classic rice bowl, I thought I’d have some fun more or less within the rules “Shape....that’s up to you, anything you could eat rice from”.

Made before "Rice Pirogue" and very much a trial piece. What I learned from this was applied to "Rice Pirogue" – I needed to use a larger diameter, more tapered hollowing, grain matching, etc.

Can be configured either as a catamaran, or a pair of pirogues. Main reason for posting this simply that this pair actually would hold the 'catamaran' pose, but also as a pirogue.

Wood is apple, a branch from a tree on my sister’s farm. Two 'goblet' forms were turned and joined mouth-to-mouth with a rabbet for gluing. ‘Bowls’ are 8" long, 2+” wide, 1" deep. Chopsticks are cherry, 8" long.

Way too small for my approach to eating rice.

Good grief... Every time I hit 'unread posts', I'm faced with another set of fantastic vessels! You are a rice boat making machine, and each set is a wonderfully creative duo!

AHHHHHHH, PICS!

I really like the out of the box thinking on these. Though, they make me want to put a pat of butter in them and roll some corn on the cob in them! Don't know what I'd use the chopsticks for...
Wood hoarder, and proud of it!
