Tea Time- Winner TOTW 1-14-2018

Post by Michael Gibson » Sat Jan 13, 2018 9:56 am

After chatting with John Mydock at the last AAW Symposium in Kansas City, we decided to do a collaboration. Here is the result, Tea Time, an Alice in Wonderland theme. Johns work really is fantastic, if you are not familiar with his work go to mydockstudio.com. This will be shown at the Honolulu Symposium, Hawaii, and the AAW Symposium in Portland this year. Sorry there are so many photos, so much to see.

I love collaborations. When done well, the voice of each individual artist comes through loud and clear yet the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This piece fits the bill. Michael created one of his classic Gibson tea pots which became the perfect canvas for John Mydock's pyrography magic. And what a perfect theme for a tea pot! For anyone not familiar with John's work, it is well worth searching out. I'm not aware of a better pyrographic illustrator out there. I've seen his work at a couple AAW meetings and it is just stunning. Easy choice for TOTW this week.

Woke up this morning thinking it was my week to do the TOTW bit. Logged in and saw that Bob had it covered. This would have been a slam dunk for me!

This is a super collaboration. I, too, have been a great admirer of John's pyrography. I agree that he's the best. And his background in graphic arts makes this super. -- Dick

What a great collaboration. One of Michaels killer teapots combined with the wild surface art that John did. Man did he nail Alice in Wonderland. A shoe-in for any honor like TOTW
